The Federation of Evangelical Religious Entities of Spain (FEREDE) offered condolences and called for a rigorous and transparent investigation so steps can be taken to prevent another tragedy. The statement, signed by FEREDE president Esteban Muñoz de Morales Mohedano and executive secretary Carolina Bueno Calvo, invited churches, especially in Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid and Andalusia, to make themselves available to families and survivors.
FEREDE also asked congregations to pray for those affected and thanked emergency, medical and police teams. The Evangelical Church of Valls in Tarragona posted a message headed “Urgent reason for prayer,” calling believers to pray to the “God of all consolation.”
The crash comes months after the Jan. 18 rail accident at Adamuz in Córdoba, which killed 46 people, according to the report. No evangelical victims have been named.
