Dr. Lloyd Caswell Kelly, pastor of Pineville First Baptist Church, founded the school to educate people called by God to Christian service. Dr. Charlie Goodman, the sixth president, has led it for the past four years after 23 years as a senior pastor.

The college offers active ministers and their families free lodging year-round for rest and reflection. Guests may attend chapel, where Dr. Matthew Nix leads worship with a student team, at 11 a.m. Eastern on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the academic year.

The campus was the sixth stop on Norman's self-guided tour showing how Cooperative Program dollars are used. He toured the grounds in the summer with Thomas Schnitzler, director of admissions, and returned to preach in chapel on a day when a senior adult group from Porter Memorial Baptist Church of Lexington also visited.
