Churches Prepare for Orphan Sunday on Nov. 8 With New Prayer Guide
World Without Orphans has released a toolkit, a prayer guide and a webinar to help congregations pray for and care for orphaned and vulnerable children this Sunday.
Churches around the world are being invited to observe Orphan Sunday this Sunday, Nov. 8, and the World Without Orphans network has released new resources to help them pray for and serve orphaned and vulnerable children, Christian Daily International reported.
Orphan Sunday falls on the second Sunday of November each year. Its official page says it is an initiative of Every Orphan's Hope and CAFO, supported by World Without Orphans, and it carries the theme verse Psalm 68:6, which in the King James Version reads, βGod setteth the solitary in families.β
The resources include an Orphan Sunday Toolkit with stories, videos, prayers and practical ideas that a church can adapt, whether it holds a prayer meeting, preaches a sermon, shares a testimony, honors families or starts a new partnership in its community. A printable version of the toolkit and a set of social media materials can be downloaded from the Orphan Sunday website.
A new prayer guide covers six areas: the protection and safety of children, healing, loving families, support for caregivers, child protection systems and hope for the future. βCaring for orphaned and vulnerable children begins with prayer,β the guide's introduction says, according to Christian Daily.
World Without Orphans has also offered an Orphan Sunday Global Webinar with accounts from several nations and examples from church leaders, and a practical guide for churches that want to work together with others. Christian Daily said the network is encouraging each congregation to ask, βWhat is the next faithful step our church can take?β
Churches that want to take part can find the toolkit and other materials on the World Without Orphans Orphan Sunday page.
