Messengers to the 189th annual meeting of the Kentucky Baptist Convention will vote on nine resolutions when they gather Tuesday, Nov. 10, at First Baptist Church in Richmond, Ky., Kentucky Today reported Oct. 28.
See where this is ›One resolution supports the lawful display of the Ten Commandments in Kentucky public school classrooms and urges the General Assembly and local school leaders to keep such displays in place. It also asks Kentucky Baptists to teach the commandments at home and in church.
Another says the offices of pastor, elder and overseer are one office that Scripture reserves for qualified men, and calls on convention churches not to appoint or endorse women as pastors, elders or overseers, including preaching to the congregation. The same resolution honors the ministry of godly women.
Other resolutions oppose assisted suicide in all forms and affirm life “from conception until natural death”; ask churches of every size to plan for including children, youth and adults with disabilities; caution against artificial intelligence replacing human relationships; back “Sunrise” legislation to protect faith-based foster care and adoption agencies such as Sunrise Children's Services; thank bivocational and volunteer pastors and their families; and call for rejecting socialism as contrary to biblical principles. A ninth thanks the host church, the city of Richmond and Madison County.
Josh Pollitt chairs the Committee on Resolutions. Todd Gray, the convention's executive director-treasurer, said Kentucky Baptists “are well served by their Committee on Resolutions” and praised Pollitt's leadership.
Convention-week events run Nov. 9-10. The full text of the proposed resolutions is posted on the convention's website.
