Learn more ›Gospel singer Guy Penrod, former lead singer of the Gaither Vocal Band, has disclosed that he is facing a serious illness, telling listeners on Monday, Oct. 26, that “there's only one potential fix for it, and it's a bone marrow transplant.” He made the announcement on the “#JustWhenever” program hosted by his former bandmate Mark Lowry, The Christian Post reported.
See where this is ›Penrod did not name the condition. According to The Christian Post, he described it as serious and “not something that can be healed,” and called it “blood stuff in the bones.” He said, “we are dealing with a bit of a medical issue with me,” and told viewers he had not shared the news with anyone before.
Penrod said he was not alarmed by the diagnosis. He said he and his wife have “tried to slow some things down and be intentional,” and he urged listeners not to hold a grudge. He quoted the thought of James 4:14, saying life is “but a vapor; it's here for a little while and vanishes away.”
Lowry prayed for his friend during the broadcast. “Lord, you know more than the doctors do about his situation,” Lowry said, and he asked listeners to “pray that Guy Penrod will be healed from the top of his head to the sole of his feet.” Penrod thanked those praying, calling them “a team of warriors.”
Penrod, born in 1963, sang lead for the Gaither Vocal Band from 1995 to 2009, according to Wikipedia, and has since recorded as a solo artist. He and his wife, Angie, have eight children. His official website promotes his album “Blessed Assurance” and lists no tour dates.
Neither Penrod nor his website has announced any concert cancellations or details about when or where a transplant might take place.
