Vincennes Church Takes the Gospel Outdoors With Three-Night Tent Revival in Gregg Park
Living Gateway Church's pastor said more than 100 people came each night, with seating spilling past the tent, in a meeting aimed at people who might never walk into a church.
VINCENNES, Ind. —
Living Gateway Church held a three-night tent revival Oct. 9-11 in Gregg Park in Vincennes, hoping to reach people who would not usually come to a church building, The Sun-Commercial reported.
Senior Pastor Dave Bannister told the newspaper that more than 100 people attended each night. Seating filled under the tent and overflowed into the back area and across the walkway, the paper said.
Bannister said the idea was to go where people are. “Even in his own ministry, He was the one who went to where the people were,” he told the paper, referring to Jesus.
Other local churches took part, and a music group from Covenant of Grace Church in Lawrenceville, Ill., performed, according to the report. Bannister said city officials and the Vincennes City Parks Department were accommodating.
It was Bannister's first tent revival with Living Gateway Church, though he has attended several in past years, the paper said. “There are a lot of people in this area, not just Vincennes, who need a fresh touch from the Lord,” he said.
The Sun-Commercial's report did not say whether anyone professed faith during the meetings. Vincennes is the seat of Knox County in southwest Indiana.
