Kentucky Baptists Release Free Album of Five Worship Songs Written by Their Own
"Heaven's Refrain" grew from a songwriting project that drew more than 150 entries. Churches will be able to use the songs, sheet music and tracks at no cost.
The Kentucky Baptist Convention will release “Heaven's Refrain,” an album of five new worship songs written by Kentucky Baptists, on Nov. 6, Kentucky Today reported Oct. 24. The album comes out ahead of the convention's annual meeting and is free for churches to use.
The songs came out of the 2026 KBC Songwriters Project, which received more than 150 entries from 107 songwriters in 66 Kentucky Baptist churches. Reviewers from outside Kentucky judged the entries on biblical and theological soundness, how easily a congregation could sing them, lyrics and musical quality.
The five songs chosen are “Heaven's Refrain” by Scott Penick, “Behold the King of Heaven” by Jay Padgett, “Holy One” by Bo Warren, “My Hope is Found in This” by Ryan Cornett and “Within the Trials” by Cody Farthing.
Jason “Bubba” Stewart, the convention's worship consultant, said churches have told him it is hard to find new songs that are theologically sound and suited to congregational singing. He said the project “has been on my heart for years.” “Kentucky Baptists should be proud that these five songs have come from within our own ranks,” Stewart said.
Craig Shuff of Ninth & O Baptist Church produced the album, which was recorded at that church, according to Kentucky Today. Chuck Harris of First Baptist Church in Owenton helped with administration.
The album will be on major streaming services, and the convention plans to post links, sheet music and split tracks on its website. Kentucky Today said it would profile the five songwriters the following week.
