TODAY'S DEVOTIONAL
The Grain of Wheat
Saturday, November 7, 2026
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.”
John 12:24, KJV
A grain of wheat in a jar is perfectly safe. It is dry, clean and whole. It will also be a single grain of wheat a hundred years from now. Safety and fruitfulness do not live in the same place.
Jesus spoke these words as He looked toward the cross, and He spoke them first about Himself. The Son of God did not stay in glory where it was safe. He fell into the ground, and from that grave came a harvest of redeemed men and women from every nation. Everything we are in Him is fruit from that seed.
Then He turns the same law on us. We want the fruit without the burial. We want a ministry, a testimony, a family that blesses others, but we do not want to be hidden, forgotten, or spent. God does not give a harvest to the grain that insists on staying in the jar. The ground is dark and the process is slow, and no one applauds a seed.
Look at the word alone. The life that refuses to die does not just miss fruit; it ends up by itself. The surrendered life is never lonely, because it is joined to a field full of others who also gave themselves up.
What is it that you are clutching because you think it is safer? Let it fall today. The One who raised the grain from the grave knows how to bring up a harvest.
