Indianapolis Picked to Host 2029 National Eucharistic Congress
The Catholic gathering returns to the city five years after the 2024 congress drew thousands of pilgrims downtown.
INDIANAPOLIS —
Indianapolis will host the 11th National Eucharistic Congress in the summer of 2029, organizers announced Oct. 20.
Bishop Andrew H. Cozzens of Crookston, Minnesota, who chairs the board of National Eucharistic Congress Inc., made the announcement at a dinner at the Omni Severin Hotel downtown. It followed a Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church led by Archbishop Charles C. Thompson of Indianapolis.
“I'm privileged to announce that in 2029, the 11th National Eucharistic Congress is going to be back here in Indianapolis,” Cozzens said, according to OSV News.
“We are grateful, we are honored to celebrate, to serve and to be the host,” Thompson said.
The city hosted the 10th congress July 17-21, 2024, when thousands of pilgrims took part in a closing procession through downtown. Dates, speakers and other details for 2029 have not been announced, and planning is just beginning, organizers said.
